Take time to "BE STILL"

We lived in a fast-paced society that over-commits and has unending to do lists that never seem to have all the boxes checked. No matter how many things we need to do, phone calls we need to make, no matter how many laundry piles await us and no matter how high the paperwork is on our desks, we must all take time to BE STILL and remember what a Mighty God we serve. Psalm 46:10, "He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  I love that word - EXALTED. The dictionary defines exalted as, "raised or elevated." When you sit back (and are STILL) and think about the almighty name of Jesus Christ, I can't help but let my jaw drop open. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords loves me. His name is Most High. THE Most High. We need to take time out of our busy schedules to see what He's doing all around us and more importantly, in us. We need to take time to be alone with Him; and fall more IN love with Him. I have wall art in one of my bathrooms that says "Be still and know that I am God", so every time I'm getting out of the shower, scrubbing the toilets or using the bathroom (don't worry, there are no other details to come about this), I'm constantly reminded how important it is to my walk with Christ to make quality time with Him, to take time enjoying His creation and not to be blinded by all the wonderful and mighty things He's doing all around me. Sometimes we get sidetracked and forget to look for all God's blessings...as part of our sinful nature, we often dwell on the low's instead of the high's. Don't forget those moments; cherish the beautiful moments where you see God doing great and mighty things in you and in others. Never forget them; never let them go; never give up. Be still and know how incredible our God is.

Living a Different Life!

I've been inspired by 1 Peter 2:12 for the past few days,
"Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world."

Ghandi once said, "“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

This is an eye opening statement. Are we living up to what the world thinks of us? Often times, we are called hypocrites because we are living and doing the same things the world does ... there are days when we are rude to people, get road rage (in a car that has a "honk if you love Jesus" bumper sticker) and tend to wear our witness tshirts but forget to love like Jesus Christ commanded. We may be the only Bible some people read. What do we want them to see? How should we act? Although our sinful nature makes it difficult and impossible to live like that of our amazing Savior, we can take steps to strive for a loving, Christ-centered heart and actions that speak louder than words.

As Christians, it's our responsbility to try our absolute best to live like Christ and act like Christ; forgetting and letting go of the sinful ways and desires of the world. We want someone to ask us what's different ... we want people to question (in a good way). If we carry the title "Christian,"  there must be actions and fruits of the spirit that accompany it. What will they be? How can we live differently? How can we leave a lasting, Christ-centered impact OPPOSITE of how Ghandi viewed Christians?

"Be the change you want to see in the world."

Listen to this song by Natalie Grant, such an inspiration to make a difference in Jesus' name:

How to stay "Christian" in College ...

College life can be hard ... you are surrounded with parties, young adults who are living on their own for the first time and taking advantage of "freedom", you're parents aren't around to "encourage" and support what decisions are right/wrong and sometimes you aren't surrounded by strong Christians who can hold you accountable. So, what should one do to stay "Christian" in college?

First, try to join a Bible Study - stay in the Word, fellowship with one another and build relationships with other Christians on campus. Find friends with whom you can hold each other accountable and talk about what you're struggling with. It's vital for us as Christians, to have people like that we can talk to without judgement. Philemon 1:6, "I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ."

Second, avoid temptation. Don't go to the wild parties and assume you "won't act." The more temptation you avoid, the less times you will fall into them. Be smart. Think ahead. Don't give in no matter how much your roomies beg - if you know you may cave in; avoid it. Be sin enough without standing head to head with tempation, so avoid it as much as you can. 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

Third, find some Christian friends. When we are in constant fellowship with other believers, we are less likely to fall into new patterns. We are reminded of how we were raised and how God calls us to act.
Matthew 5:16, "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

Fourth, be a shining light. Don't just talk to fellow believers - make new friends; step out of your comfort zone; be a shining light and tell others about Jesus. Don't leave the impact that Ghandi had of other Christians - "I'd be a Christian had I never met one." Be different - don't follow the world's patterns; follow God's.
Romans 12:2, "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Now, as you continue on in your journey of learning to juggle college life, jobs, homework, bills and everything else that falls on your plate - try to take some time to read this book:
